Action for Children

We have a long-standing commitment to public education at our church. Each year, our Action for Children team purchases school uniforms for children whose families cannot afford them. Several members of the team also serve as volunteer tutors through the Literacy Council’s I READ program. For more information about this team, contact Jackie Dehler at jjdehler@comcast.net.

And Justice for All

We are committed to a world that celebrates diversity and works to end racism and religious bigotry. Our Justice for All team meets on the 2nd Sunday of each month following the worship service. The group also facilitates a discussion following service on the 3rd Sunday of each month. They support and network with other justice efforts both within and outside the church community. This group also coordinates a “Human Library” project in collaboration with Rockford Public Libraries. For more information about this team, contact Duane Wilke at duanewilke@gmail.com.

Green Sanctuary

We have been a UUA-certified Green Sanctuary for many years and we are actively working to reduce the church’s carbon footprint, promote ecological stewardship, and fight for environmental justice in our community. Members of our congregation helped found the Rockford Coalition for a Sustainable Future, and we also partner with Forest City 350 and the local chapter of the Sierra Club. Our Green Sanctuary team meets every other month. For more information, contact Bob Babcock at weloverockvalley@hotmail.com.
