Voices of Modern Labor
September 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Online and in-person
Rev. Joyce Palmer
What does it mean to make a living and a life in the 21st century? Inspired by the incredible work of Studs Terkel and recent writers, this service will feature a reader’s theater style presentation. We will highlight the honest and diverse voices of today’s workforce. Join us as we explore our UU commitment to human dignity, justice, and the deep invisible threads that connect us all thorough our daily labor.
Last Sunday we raised $247.64 for Rockford Area Arts Council
We will Share the Plate with Family to Family Who We Are:
By supporting the youth and children, we seek to provide a consistent gift of presence as we build literacy, social-emotional, and math skills. In addition, our hope is to build a balance of spiritual, physical, and mental health by helping them discover personal strengths and achieve personal goals.
What We Do:
Family to Family and Grace United Methodist Church focus on the families residing at The Grove at Keith Creek. We seek to build relationships with the residents, especially the children and youth. Currently, there are four programs needing volunteers: Youth Garden on site, Summer Reading, Tiny Turners for 0-5-year-olds, and One-on-One Tutoring. Click Here to Donate

Starting next month, we are launching Bring a Friend First Sundays, a simple, dedicated chance to share what you love about this community with the people you care about most. Growth happens when we open our doors wider, and it starts with a simple invite. Start thinking about who you will bring, and let’s make the first Sunday of next month even more joyous.

Companion Listener Training Wednesday, September 9th 6:00 pm Library
Looking for a Way to Connect? Become a Companion. Deep listening is one of the greatest gifts we can offer one another. We are launching our new Traveler & Companion program to bring warm, friendly visits to members of our community, and we need you.
Please join us for an informational training on Wednesday, September 9th at 6:00 pm. We will walk through the program framework, share practical conversation starters, and explain how we will connect Companions with Travelers for monthly or bi-monthly visits. If you enjoy good conversation and quiet presence, we hope you will join us.
Search Committee
Members, friends & visitors—we want to hear from you! Help shape the next chapter of our congregation by taking our 10–15 minute Ministerial Search Survey.
Our Search Survey is an important opportunity to help shape the next chapter of our congregation. Your honest, anonymous responses will help us better understand who we are today – our experiences, hopes, needs, and priorities – and what we dream of for the future as we search for our next settled minister.
Answer soon – the survey closes at the end of the day Sunday, September 27!
Your voice matters. Add yours to the conversation!
Take the survey by clicking on this link or scanning the QR code below: https://bit.ly/UUsurvey2026
* Printed copies of the survey are available in the office for those who prefer to submit their answers in writing.
