A few updates on the phishing attempt of church folks.
1. They seemed to go alphabetically. I was alerted from the A’s first, and the W’s and V’s came close to the end of the day. Hopefully that means the texting is over – but stay alert. Remember I never ask you for gift cards.
2. Because our warning was public, they adjusted the signature to match what I usually send, which is a bummer. But always hover over the sender and check the actual address or number – my number ends with 5971. The number sending scam texts is 815-319-3459. If you get something from that number, block and report it.
3. In addition, folks are sending messages that impersonate Church Board President Spitty Tata. Hover over the email address here as well, and you’ll see scottsatterwhite39 AT gmail.com. This is NOT Spitty, but a scammer. Report and block. Just like me, no board member will ask for gift cards or emergency aid by email or text.
4. Do not engage with these texts or emails. Just report and block. Scammers (who are probably not located in the United States) will threaten when confronted, and it doesn’t do any good. Just block and report.
Thank you all for your diligence and patience. The skills you are using and learning here will also protect you from other scams by text and email.
In faith,
Matthew

for Adults
Let’s talk about sex!!! (It’s not just for teenagers.) The Unitarian Universalist Association has developed a stellar comprehensive sex education curriculum known as Our Whole Lives. As the title suggests, it is not a one-and-done, but rather a topic to be revisited as we grow and mature. Join us this fall as Wendy Bennett and Leah Krippner facilitate an adult exploration of sexuality in the 21st century. Anyone 18 and up is welcome to join.
Wendy and Leah are trained OWL facilitators and have been teaching OWL for nearly 20 years.
Sessions will be held once a month. Come and join us for an intro session either on Wednesday, October 25 at 6:00 p.m. (Bring a dinner!) or on Sunday, October 22 at 11:30 a.m. (Pack a lunch for this one!) At this opening session, we will decide on dates for the other sessions as well as topics to be discussed. Please contact the church office to sign up for one of these two initial sessions. Let them know if you will need assistance with childcare. Questions? Email Wendy or Leah.
