Dream a Little
March 16, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Online and in-person
Rev. Joyce Palmer

Freedom does not happen overnight. Let’s dream together about building the Beloved Community and how to bring it to life with a renewed sense of activism.

Order of Service

We will share the plate with NW River Valleys Sierra Club
Northwest River Valleys Group is committed to the protection of wild places, natural resources, and environmental education in northern and northwest Illinois.  The Group covers a major portion of Illinois from East Dubuque to Harvard on the northern Illinois border to Sandwich to Serena to Mendota to Amboy to Sterling to Savanna.  The region touches the Mississippi on the western edge, the Fox on eastern edge, and encompasses much of the Illinois portion of the Rock.

In addition to numerous state parks, including Lowden State Park, home of The Black Hawk Statue, four counties also contain the highest capacity Canadian tar sands pipeline in the United States.

Volunteers for Sunday, March 16
Thank you to the Caring Team for volunteering for hospitality this Sunday!

Notice of Special Meeting of the Society March 23, 2025

It’s time to care for the building we love so much!

Please plan to attend a special congregational meeting immediately following our worship service on March 23, 2025.  The last two editions of Kairos have included articles about the deteriorating siding on our church building and what will be involved and the cost of replacing it.  Before the Board can authorize such an expense, it must be approved by a vote of the Society.

Please review the Summary by clicking the button below. We also have printed copies of Part 2 of the project summary available at church.

Remote proxy votes accepted. Email Autumn at office@uurockford.org by Friday, March 21

Questions? See Dave Schubert, Clark Logemann, Steve Lewis, Bob Spelman or Matt Menze.

 UU Who’s Who?
featuring Linda Johnson (Past Board President)

Question 1: What do/did you enjoy about being on the Board?
Answer: Getting to know the other members of the Board was the most gratifying.  I also appreciated learning more about the “behind the scenes” workings of our church such as the budget, the work of committees and Teams, for example.  I was fortunate to be on a Board that was friendly, willing to answer all my questions, and support me during my year as President.   Matthew was so helpful too.  He was so patient as I was trying to learn the technology as well as the substance.

Question 2: How did you get your position?
Answer:  Honestly I was stunned when I was contacted by the nominating committee member asking me to consider becoming President Elect of the Board.  I was still fairly new and learning more about a church that was so “different” from other denominations to which I had previously belonged.  I was very nervous about filling this role but  I am glad I accepted and I learned a lot by being President Elect for a year.

Question 3: What was the first position you volunteered for at the church?
Answer: My first volunteer position was helping with the church “garage sale” which we don’t do anymore.  I was asked by other women members to work with them in the “ Women’s Boutique”.   This is where, with whom and when I formed some of my closest church family relationships.  It was truly a gift to me.

Please nominate someone to help serve the church at: nominating@uurockford.org
Feel free to reach out with any questions, taking nominations until March 15th. Surveys need to be completed by nominees by March 30.
