Summer Movie Sermon: You’ve Got a Friend in Me
July 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
Online and in-person
Rev. Bret Lortie

Over the years, the Toy Story franchise has moved us from light themes of friendship to the dangers of fascism and the power of pluralism. It’s all there if you’re paying attention! The latest installment opened last month, so you have plenty of time to go see it before exploring together what UU intersections are revealed in these simple tales of toys. I will avoid spoilers that give away the end.

Community Events

The UU Church of Stockton is hosting several more concerts this year as part of our “Music on Pearl” project. You are cordially invited to attend, and we would appreciate it if you would share the attached information with your membership.

The first concert is Yazmin and Beat Zero on Friday, August 7, from 6-8 p.m.  Their music is a blend of Afro-Cuban, Latin-Jazz,
funk, and fold/rock, guaranteed to make you want to dance!  Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students and are available online at uuchurchofstockton.org or at the door.  Light refreshments will be available.  There is plenty of parking, and we are handicapped accessible.

The 2nd concert will be Saturday, September 12, from 2-4 p.m. with Ernie Hendrickson and Friends doing a tribute to the Grateful Dead.  The last concert is versatile solo guitarist Ruth Wyand on Saturday, November 14, from 2-4 p.m.  Concerts are held in the sanctuary, which has wonderful acoustics. All proceeds from the concerts go to support bringing more live music to the Stockton area.

Vision:
A loving, spiritual congregation that lives our values through belonging, reason, and action.

Mission:
Like the nature that surrounds us, we evolve as a habitat for spiritual development.

  • Our deep roots connect us to a wealth of resources that nourish our growth as a beacon for justice, inclusion, and liberation, especially anti-racism and gender and sexuality justice.
  • Our listening cultivates diverse and multicultural relationships that bridge divisions, strengthen our communities, heal hearts, and foster safety for all.
  • Our awareness of our interdependence inspires us to protect the shared environment and natural world in which we live.
