Let Your Motto Be Resistant: A Practice of Witness and Repair
January 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Online and in-person
Rev. Joyce Palmer

In our month of practicing resistance, we’ll draw wisdom from the African American Portraits exhibit “Let Your Motto Be Resistant.” Through art and story, we’ll explore resistance as a spiritual discipline. Join us for a service that invites both reflection and commitment to what happens when we let a life, fully seen, change what we will tolerate and what we will do?

Order of Service

Our Share the Plate is supporting Life Decisions, a program that provides relational mentoring for young people ages 15–23. Life Decisions serves multi-ethnic youth who often come from fractured family situations, feel alone, and lack access to opportunities. Through mentoring and teaching basic life skills, the program connects participants with a positive community of support so they can build the knowledge and confidence to lead healthy, productive lives.

Child Dedication

We are pleased to announce that the Unitarian Universalist Church, Rockford will hold a Child Dedication during worship on Sunday, January 25, 2026.  The dedication will be a simple ritual in which the congregation commits to the spiritual welfare and development of the child and their family.  Though the ritual is not a baptism, some similar symbolism will be incorporated into the ceremony.  Children of any age that have not previously been dedicated are welcome to participate in the ritual.  Children who participate are welcome to have their parents and siblings as well as one or two sponsors join them at the front of the sanctuary during the dedication.  If you would like to participate in the Child Dedication, please e-mail Lindsay Trank at reuurockford@gmail.com by Wednesday, January 21.  We hope you will join us for this special occasion!
